06 November 2009
Time: 4.27pm

Finally, I get some time off to catch up a little bit on writing. The past couple of days were quite hectic and bizzy buzzy as Melbourne was alot to take in, and when I meant alot to take in...that means I was so tired at the end of the day, that I slept straight as soon as my head hits the pillow. I didn't even have the time to write this.

So, I left off right after the 10 hours long cruise, we entered into Melbourne,Docklands with our luggages in tow. (Poor Nick and Kam Weng had to drag my huge ass luggage around...thanks boys) We got on a tram straight after we reached and boy was I overwhelmed. I was rather taken aback by the sudden amount of people bustling around since I was deprived of a city life for 4 months in Tassie.

But I gotta admit, it would be a good place to live in, with so much to look around. I swear, every corner you turn and look, there's something interesting going on. From the different scales of sidewalks, the activities bustling, sight of people in their fancy suits (Really, these Melbourners take their fashion mojo really seriously)

So first thing we did was check in into a Flashpacker (a term for flashy backpackers HEH) then we went eating some awesome Japanese food. It was really awesome because all three of us were starving like mad. Then we met up with my friends, Sinn Dee, Yin Mei and Aaput. We went to this coffee place L'inContro which is the only place other than Hungry Jacks that opens till late. Or it doesn't close at all, I'm not sure. But it was really good catching up with the girls. Wengy and Nicky seemed to get along really well with them...talking shit about ...well..shit?

Then the next day we went around scouting for cars to rent...and we realized that we were in quite a bit of shit since renting cars by being 25 years old cost a bomb, with additional surcharge...but we found a great little thing...(which i won't tell you first, until we do it later) which saves SO MUCH money and yet, bloody exciting. However, we ended up renting a red Ford Focus from Peterpans which gave us a pretty good deal.

Then we took a tram and went to St. Kilda (the tram driver was a bit drunk btw) to have like the AWESOMEST fish and chips and also...bloody good dessert. BEST EVER!!! it was some old bakery with bloody famous recipe thing. So that was awesome. Then we saw the sunset before we head back to the city for bloody good gelato on Lygon Street.

Then next day...OFF TO CANBERRA!!!! which I'll most probably update later since its late now and I'm gonna tell you what Nick and Kamweng just did.
I assure you...it is something you will never do...and well. We just did. =_= just because we're awesome like that.

p.s. Pictures will be uploaded later, because I'm currently lazy and I can't wait to cook maggi mee by the roadside...:P and with our new portable stove we bought in Melbourne.

k lots of love from Canberra now.

Cruise till my ass goes sore

>> Thursday, November 5, 2009

Date: 04 November 2009

Time : 1.20 am

I am not exactly writing this and posting this on real time, I am actually writing this on Kamweng’s sketchbook’s back page in a very awkward position, because you would never believe, where I am at this moment, or what I am about to do.

We’re going HOBO style ya all!!! (short form for homeless bums from now onwards)

From where I left off last post, I did mention that Kam Weng and Nick came back with no luck regarding our accommodation, and staying at Mc Dees was a no-go. Apparently their 24 hours service only applies to drive thru so we had to leave Mc Dees after 12, with our bags in tow. Well, a little set back like that was nothing, when we decided to camp outside a shack, with our sleeping bags out. Thank god I bought a second hand sleeping bag from Jonathan before I left on this trip, because it definitely saved the day.

Probably the best 15 aud I’ve spent in a while.

So back to the current time, I’m writing to you, with the best possible circumstance, of course taking in consideration that we’re currently camping outside in the cold… under the bright sky litted by a great round full moon, with star peppered sky, waterfronted view. Probably the best spot you can find at Devonport. :P

I still can’t stop laughing at the fact that I’m camping out, going full out Hobo style for this trip, and Nick just suggested that we should give you guys a 101 on going out Hobo style. If you ever will. :P

1.

Make sure you ass is insulated from the ground as it gets sore after a while.

2. Get a bloody good sleeping bag, because you’re in freaking Tasmania and the nights gets unbelievably cold for no reason.

3. Make sure you’re up during the sunrise because it is probably the best sight you’ll ever see, going Hobo

4.
Find a great spot, like we did.

5. Make sure the spot is hidden from plain view. Because I think it’s illegal going hobo out here and you don’t want anybody seeing you on the streets. It’s bad for your image. :P

Spirit of Tassy rolling in baybeh!

After all that, we finally boarded the Spirit of Tasmania, which arrived right on time as the sun rises right in front of our eyes. It was quite breathtaking, watching the gigantic ship sail into the port as the sun rises. Plus, the sun comes means more warmth, which was helpful because we were practically and literally freezing our asses off the entire night.

We boarded the ship, without food, which was rather stupid on our part, because the food on the cruise sucked and it was freaking expensive. I was hungry, so I got myself a butter croissant while the boys got their share of overpriced pastries.

ON THE CRUISE ! Be jealous ppl. Be very jealous.

What’s awesome about the cruise is that they have everything on board, from cinema, to casino to gift shop. What’s not so awesome about the cruise is that after a while, you wouldn’t have anything to do, you’ll be bored till you feel like puking as the ship rocks quite violently in the middle of the ocean.

What we did was….well… we did a lot of sleeping. Considering that we hardly got any during the night before, so we a lot of that. Embarrassing for me because I had to sleep at a very awkward position at a very public seating. Thank god the cruise was all old people from Tasmania and no hot hunks :P I guess all the hot hunks were smarter in the sense that they took airplanes instead. (It was Nick’s brilliant idea to take the cruise. Thanks bro. -_-)

After 10 hours on the cruise,…we finally reached Melbourne. As much as I was exhausted, tired, sea sicked… I think I’m ready to embrace the bustling city after 4 months being in quiet town Launnie.

Till the next post, where I’m going to tell you about the wonders of Melbourne city… do take care and have a gelato or two. Because I just had them, and they’re too damn bloody fantastic.

p.s. Updates is a little delayed because, ITS BLOODY HARD TO FIND A WIFI SPOT AROUND LA. so you ppl chill. CAN? LOL!

CHEERS!

First leg of the race to awesomeness.

>> Tuesday, November 3, 2009

03 November 2009 : 9.30pm
Place: Devonport, Mc Donalds
Weather: Cold and 12 Degrees

Yes, I've embarked on the journey to awesomeness and it is still not sinking in yet. Nick and Kam Weng just left to check out a nearby caravan park for tonight's accomodation just in case we needed to crash in for the night before we board the cruise tomorrow morning. Well, I guess I should really introduce to you my travel buddies before I jumpstart into blabbing about my trip just yet. :P

Kam Weng (2nd year archistudent), often known for his abnormal height, towering over most asians would normally be mistaken by his reclusive self, introvert personality but really, when you get to know him, he is far from what he look like. Don't judge the cover for this guys because he really is downright obnoxiously outrageous and nuts, often saying inappropriate things at inappropriate times. Probably a great travel buddy, but I wouldn't judge. Because I haven't thought of killing him.

Yet.

Then there's Nick (3rd year archistudent), probably notorious for his outspokeness, and outrageous behaviour. Impossibly loud and a nonstop chatterbox. I should really be thankful that his partner in crime, David Teoh (singaporean indian army dude) didn't come along or else I'll probably be insulted dead on my feet. Well, back to Nick the prankster...he has the brains to match his cockiness so...i guess that sums up Nick, the big boss of the trip. :P

and this one, I've already thought of killing. My housemate, Chang Whuei even suggested soaking his kidneys in warm water while he was asleep. Cruel eh? LOL

So for the past week there was non stop partying in Launnie, and by partying, I meant "kenduri-everyone-cook-their-heart-out-and-eat-togethergether" kind. The third years are the last ones to submit their submission and it ended with a bang. GOOD JOB Guys! so there was loadsa partying, drinking, eating, getting drunk, playing "i've never" games, and just being plain silly. There was that and today was a little sad because I'm leaving launnie for the summer, and alot of the third years are not coming back next semester. So that was sucky.
But it couldn't be bad for me, because my travel buddy Nick is probably having his heart broken inside, since he might not come back next year:P HAHA! But he handled it pretty well,

Who knows, he might be tearing inside:P

Then off we head to Devonport with our luggages in tow.

Currently, I am sitting at Devonport's Mcdonalds after our subway dinner, with a caramel latte, surrounded with mounts of luggages while the boys went out to scout for accomodation for the night. And I'm typing this real quick because McDee's doesn't have plug points for laptop while they have wi-fi.

Pretty silly.

But well, the plan is now, (because nick and weng just came back with no luck with the accomodation) is that we chill at mcdees for the night tonight before boarding Spirit of Tasmania tomorrow morning. To those who don't know what is Spirit of Tasmania, it is similar to a cruise ship with cinema, shops, boutiques and all sorts of cool stuff on board. I would need to get on board tomorrow to tell you how it really is like.

Well, that's about it for now. I shall write again soon! Till then, have a great summer holiday and cheers!;)

P.s. Do leave me a message when you're reading this! ;)

xoxo

You are going to follow me on a trip of a lifetime.

They say you haven't been to Launceston if you haven't been to the Gorge.

For almost 4 months I've been here, and I have never been to the Gorge until...well yesterday. and I'm glad I did wait till yesterday...because now that I'm done with my semester, I'm all free and lazing around like nobody's business. So, yesterday, my friends decided to bring me to the Gorge, because apparently I was an idiot for not going to the Gorge.
=P

The trip consists of tracking the trails of Gorge in water logged jeans (just because they dared me to jump into the lake. and i did. :P )
Tracking with soaked clothes...
Attempted to reach the second basin, which we did, on bloody dangerous rocks, because David...the singaporean army trained dude decided it would be fun...well, it was...
until we decided it was too far and dangerous because we were hopping on mossy rocks. Well, I was not hopping really. More like crouching and sliding off my bum and climbing because my jeans were wet.
Oh, and I also earned a huge ass blister while doing stunts on the rocks.

It took us about 4 hours and boy were we all exhausted in the end.

Also, I woke up with the biggest sore in my body, ever. In my life.

but it was good fun. :P

And now that I've gotten that out of the way, I'm gonna ask you to follow me on a trip of a lifetime.
I guess most of you already know my super plan after semester, which is a grand plan of backpacking around mainland australia in a month.
It's going to be real awesome as we're going around in car, making our way around aussieland with a mission.Throughout the trip, I will be logging it on this blog for documentary purposes and you are gonna be following me on this trip closely. =P
Well, at least I hope there's constant wifi around aussie land, but we'll see=) Ultimately, it's going to be helluva awesome trip and it will start on Wednesday with Melbourne as our first destination.

I'll see you, then;)

p.s. if you're in Australia, get in touch! Coz I wanna visit you ;)

xoxo

I have plans.

You see, I really do need a plan to execute my brilliant idea.

At the moment, it is as though someone lit a fire on a cracker. Just waiting for it to burst and crackle.

but seriously? before I actually head dive into my brilliant master plan, I've got to chill for a bit and have some fun. Hence, this weekend is going to be freaking awesome, with a roadtrip, and a trip to the carnival/showday.

nevertheless,

I have a plan. ;)

p.s. I think my friends have abandoned me. =(

Love, Jan

Such a great day today

>> Saturday, October 3, 2009

It's such a good day today, with the cafefest held in the city, the sun high up in the sky warming up the whole of Launceston. Cafefest was good today, with people hanging around in the city, drinking coffee on the streets, musicians serenading the alleyway of the city. The bunch of us, had a short stroll along Brisbane street, just soaking up the sun before heading to KFC to celebrate the birthdays of Brian, Nick and Xavier.

Happy birthday guys! May you have a great exiting year ahead for you as life offers you so much! too much indeed.

Great times. Great times ;)

Too bad I have no pictures to show you how exciting and enticing the city was today.

p.s. Did i tell you i lost my phone yesterday? Not very fun, that one.

Have a great day people.

Jan loves you.

after an unbelievably short run

>> Sunday, September 27, 2009

It's almost a routine, for me to wake from my sleep and stay in bed for at least 10 mins before I get up. A pretty good routine, I must say. Because for that 10 minutes, I mentally plan out the day and make up a list of what I need to do by the end of that day. However, today I stayed in bed for a little longer, pondering on the slight blueish tinge to my mood..I've decided to have a slow day.

I got up for breakfast, walked over to Izzati's place to collect my phone which I left in her car (because we went on a roadtrip to Hobart yesterday, but this is a tale to tell another day)
Then, i went for a short run.

Which probably burnt off 2 percent of my body fat because I was feeling woozy and tired after that. HAH!

I gotta say, it is a good day today, with the sun out fiercely but the wind was even more menacing. So I've settled with reading the books I've borrowed from the library, on my porch, out in the sun, with a cup of hot tea.

AND That, was 15 minutes ago.

while now, back in my room, I think I should tell you about the impromptu trip to Hobart i went on with 2 of my good friends almost a month ago. Well, yes I went to Hobart last month for a 3 days two night thing which was pretty awesome since it was right after the submission of an assignment and we thought it would be nice to getaway for a little while.

and we did!

Hopped on a bus, after 2 hours, we were in Hobart almost at about 8 ish. Which by then, most of the shops in the city were closed. The streets of Hobart in the city at night were pretty similar to Launceston. Same pavements, same road systems, same street malls, except with taller buildings.

Photobucket

Tall, but not skyscrapers.

We checked into a backpacker's inn...then went out for food.

Photobucket

Early next morning, it was drizzling but we came here with a mission. HAH!

So the three of us trooped to Salamanca market, which was just walking distance from the backpackers inn. The market was pretty interesting with nice white tents, interesting goods, great hotdog stalls and a dash of street musicians...and not to mention it was situated on historic grounds. (Coincidentally I've read of this as I was going through my Australian history assignment)
Enriching?
Photobucket

Yep! But the trip gets better as Nick, Weng and I walked even further to random spots such as the memorial park which had a great view over the waters of Hobart, the Harbour for LOVELY icecream, went to Sandy Bay just for the heck of it...Visited the hobart UTAS campus... the historic building of the IXL Jam factory...which is now an awesome hotel...designed by Morris-Nunn Architect. Whom now I think is brilliant with their conservation efforts.

Photobucket
Too bad I was too busy admiring the building that I've neglected my faithful camera.
:P

Then the next day we went to Glenorchy where I had the BEST hotdog ever. In my life. Fullstop. Well, it was another market...similar to the Launceston showground market where they have it weekly...went walking somemore...pretty much aimlessly as we explored random churches, some conventional centre which is similar to KLCC but of course, not as glorified...Hobart's aquatic centre...which we only managed to see from the outside. It was mostly an experimental day for us as we walked aimlessly around Hobart, wondering if any surprises awaits us. :P
Photobucket

but by the end of it we were quite tired from all the walking that at night, we settled for a movie instead:P (THE UGLY TRUTH!! which, in fact, held truths about guys which Nick and Weng have been drilling into my head since day one I arrived in Tassie land)
Photobucket

All in all, I loved it. WELL...my fellow trip buddies COULD be more discreet on whatever that's going on in their nutty heads...but i loved the company:P

Photobucket

it inspired me on my end year project I'm HOPING that will happen...WHICH i'm pretty insistant that it will:P

Photobucket

Just because I'm freaking excited for it.;)

Photobucket

Cheers
